Sarah Norcliffe Cleghorn

Known  for:  radical sentiments. She was a Christian socialist, a pacifist, an anti-vivisectionist, a vegetarian, and worked for womens suffrage, for prison reform, against lynching, against the death penalty, and against child labor. Occupation: poet, writerDates: 1876 - April 4, 1959Also known as: Sarah N. Cleghorn, Sarah Cleghorn Biography Robert Frost famously pointed out that the people of Vermont were taken care of by three great ladies. And one of these is wise and a novelist, one is mystic and an essayist and the third is saintly and a poet. Frost referred to Dorothy Canfield Fisher, Zephine Humphrey, and Sarah Norcliffe Cleghorn. He also said of Cleghorn, To a saint and a reformer like Sarah Cleghorn the great importance is not to get hold of both ends, but of the right end. She has to be partisan. Born in Virginia in a hotel where her New England parents were visiting, Sarah Norcliffe Cleghorn grew up in Wisconsin and Minnesota until she was nine. When her mother died, she and her sister moved to Vermont, where  aunts raised them. She lived most of her years in Manchester, Vermont. Cleghorn was educated at a seminary in Manchester, Vermont, and studied at Radcliffe College, but she could not afford to continue. Her circle of poet and writer friends included Dorothy Canfield Fisher and Robert Frost. She is considered part of the American Naturalists. She called her earlier poems sunbonnets -- poems which characterized country life -- and her later poems burning poems -- poems that pointed to social injustices. She was profoundly influenced by reading of an incident in the South, the burning alive of a Negro by his white neighbors. She was also disturbed by how little attention this incident drew. At 35, she joined the Socialist Party, though she later said that she had begun to do some cogitating on labor issues at age 16. She worked briefly in the Brookwood Labor School. On a visit to South Carolina, she was inspired by seeing a factory mill, with child laborers, next to a golf course, to write her best-remembered verse.   She oritinally submitted it as just this quatrain; it is part of a larger work,  Through the Needles Eye, 1916: The golf links lie so near the millThat almost every dayThe laboring children can look outAnd see the men at play. In middle age, she moved to New York to find work -- not too successfully. Over the years, forty of her poems were published in Atlantic Monthly. In 1937, she served briefly on the faculty of Wellesley College, as a substitute for Edith Hamilton, and she also substituted for a year at Vassar, both times in the English departments. She moved to Philadelphia in 1943, where she continued her activism, defending peace during the Cold War as an old Quaker. Sarah Cleghorn died in Philadelphia in 1959. A Research On Time Management - 976 Words

In my research of time management, I have come upon several sources that seem to be very comprehensive in the methodology the authors choose to help achieve better time management. The methods they suggest do disagree on the usefulness of technology, and whether or not it does more harm than good, but the sources all agree that the discipline to follow the schedule you have created is key. The research agrees that people who schedule and manage their time are in general happier and more satisfied with what they accomplish. Additionally, the experts agree the first step is to prioritize the tasks you wish to accomplish. Martha Beck, a writer for Oprah magazine, banks heavily on the ideologies of Professor Randy Pausch, a computer scientist at Carnegie Mellon University. Pausch made a speech in 1998 titled the Last Lecture where he spoke about achieving dreams after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The other sources do not directly state how we should prioritize, but Pausch set up a very clear methodical way. Beck believes in Pausch’s quadrant system where one creates four categories: urgent important, important not urgent, unimportant urgent, and unimportant not urgent. After one has settled on what should go in these categories, one throws out the unimportant not urgent pile and forgets about it. One then schedules time with the urgent important pile first, then important not urgent, then urgent unimportant. Celebrities Blame Paparazzi Free Essays

You will be wondering why paparazzi follow celebrities. Paparazzi are everywhere, where celebrities are and celebrities are complaining that they don’t get enough privacy. Everyone says we should give some space to the celebrities and let them live their regular lives. We will write a custom essay sample on Celebrities Blame Paparazzi or any similar topic only for you Order Now Celebrities seem to always be blaming their lack of privacy on the paparazzi but it’s not the paparazzo’s fault. Celebrities go to places where they know the paparazzi will be there. Some celebrities don’t want personal information about them to be found by the paparazzi but they call the paparazzi to take photos or interview them about their lives. As well, Celebrities call ahead of time to let the paparazzi know where they are. Celebrities go to places they know ahead of time that the paparazzi will be there. For example when Miley Cyrus was planning to go out for dinner with her friends and family members, she decided to go to Ivy restaurant in L. A. She knew that the paparazzi would be there no matter what, because this restaurant is known to have lots of celebrity customers. Why did she even decide to go there when she always complains that the paparazzi are following her everywhere she goes and she wants her privacy? In a way, the paparazzi are not following her, she is following them. Some celebrities say that the paparazzi find out everything about their personal information but this is actually not true. For example, when Britney Spears told the paparazzi that her sister, was pregnant and everyone was in a shock that she was pregnant at 16 years old.Jamie Lynn Spears called the paparazzi and told the OK! Magazine, that you can take the pictures of my baby child when it is born. Is it the paparazzi fault? I think so not, because celebrities are always including the paparazzi in their life by themselves. OK! Magazine took a lot of pictures when the baby was born. She made a lot of money by just allowing the paparazzi to take photos of the new baby. Also, Robert Pattinson from the twilight movie said he is searching for a girl to be his wife.He said he will not tell the paparazzi what the girl should be like, but one day during an MTV interview, he talked about what type of girlfriend he is looking for. For example, he said that â€Å"it depends on how old she is; he does not care what color she is and he does not like kids at all so he would not like to have his own kids. † Celebrities call or tell them ahead of time to let the paparazzi know where they will be. Like when they go to interviews they tell them that they will be doing this at that time or the date. Like Robert Pattinson went to an interview and said that in March he will start shooting for the new movie, New moon in Forks a part of America then the whole cast and the crew will go to Italy to shoot the other parts of the movie. Also, when Jamie Lynn Spears said that she is pregnant and was getting engaged to Casey Aldrige. They got engaged but did not decide that when they are going to get married. The celebrities tell the paparazzi ahead of time where they will be and what they will be doing even though they are always saying they are annoyed by the paparazzi.Overall the celebrities have been blaming their lack of privacy on the paparazzi but it’s not the paparazzo’s fault, because for example, when Britney spear was driving her car she put her son on her lap and drove the car but when the paparazzi caught her, she said that the paparazzi forced her to do it. It was actually her fault over all. Celebrities can never blame the paparazzi because if they have to prom ote something they will call paparazzi to promote it for them. The paparazzi are a part of celebrity’s life’s, whatever they try to say or do is with the paparazzi. Celebrities cannot become famous without the paparazzi, no matter what.
